GUARANTEE OF A LIFETIME

directed by Aleem Hossain

an experimental documentary short film

Out for a walk one day, a few blocks from my house, I came across a huge pile of discarded VHS tapes. They were meticulously labeled and logged – a lifetime of recording TV and movies on broadcast television. I think I’d literally just finished binging a show on Netflix and coming across this stranger’s pile of tapes – full of movies and TV I hadn’t thought about in years, recorded in a format that was once omnipresent (and the subject of a landmark Supreme Court case) and is now a retro curiosity - kinda made my head explode. A million different thoughts and memories crashed together and I took out my phone and started filming. That footage turned into this film, an experimental audiovisual brainstorm on the ephemeral nature of viewing movies and TV.
